What was the diet of our ancestors.Di they go out and hunt animals all day or did they pick the fruit from trees,or a bit of both?

This question is being asked as given the conflicting dietary advice out there, people are looking to ancient wisdom for answers.

The problem is we live in a world very different from the one of thousands of years ago so what we should be asking is what is right for us here and now?

Going way back we were hunter gatherers eating some plant food and some meat, all unprocessed of course.

As man became more sophisticated he moved onto dairy and grains as he found ways to domesticate animals and grow crops.

The important point to take away here is that these foods were unprocessed, thus the modern vegan diet can be seen as the present day equivalent of the ancient diet just without the meat.

Humans do require vitamin B12 which can only be found in meat and the human digestive system does carnosinase an enzyme to digest carnosine, a protein only found in animals.

So there is evidence to suggest that the human is built anatomically to consume meat.

However look at how meat is produced today.

Most is factory farmed using hormones, antibiotics and pesticides in order to produce larger livestock and thus more meat. Then there is the issue of the extreme cruelty to animals.

Very little omega 6 can be found in modern meat much less that in wild animals.

There is more pollution in the world than ever and this finds it's way into all foods but especially meat.

Our ancestors ate all the animal not just the muscle tissue which has a high concentration of protein.Whilst we need protein we only need a small amount. There is just too much protein in a heavy meat diet.

So we can conclude the modern factory cow is a poor substitute for wild animals which, it should be noted, were eaten raw not cooked.Cooking any food be it meat fruit or vegetable destroys most of it's nutritional value.

Only we can decide what is the best diet for us.It is clear that our ancestors did eat meat but it had much more nutritional value that it does now.

In my view a raw vegan diet is the best option in this modern age provided we buy fresh organic produce.
